Brampton Scrap Metal Yard Goes Up in Flames

Crews are battling a fire at a scrap metal yard in Brampton, with thick black smoke visible across a wide area, including Toronto Pearson International Airport.
Brampton Fire and Emergency Services said the fire broke out at a property near Intermodal Drive and Goreway Drive, an industrial area in the city’s northwest. In a social media post, BFES shared a photo showing heavy smoke rising from the site as emergency crews worked to contain the blaze.
The smoke from the fire was also visible from Pearson International Airport, highlighting the size and intensity of the incident. At this stage, officials have not reported any injuries connected to the fire.
BFES said the cause, origin and circumstances of the fire are still unknown. Fire crews remain on scene investigating and working to bring the situation under control.
The scrap metal yard fire has drawn attention because of the large plume of smoke and its location near major transportation routes and airport operations. Emergency responders have not released details about how the fire started or whether any nearby properties have been affected.
Authorities are continuing to monitor the scene while the response effort continues. More information is expected once investigators determine what sparked the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
