Amanda Anisimova Stunned by Diane Parry in French Open Third-Round Upset

American tennis player Amanda Anisimova suffered an upset loss at Roland Garros on Saturday, becoming the latest high-seeded player to exit early in a tournament marked by surprise results. The sixth-seeded Anisimova faced unranked French player Diane Parry in the women’s singles third round and dropped a hard-fought three-set match.

Parry used strong support from the home crowd to take the opening set 6-3 and put Anisimova under pressure early. With several top players already falling in the first rounds on both the men’s and women’s sides, the match added to the growing list of major upsets in Paris. Anisimova responded in the second set, winning 6-4 to force a deciding third set and keep her Roland Garros run alive.

The final set turned into a tense battle. Anisimova led 5-4 and had an opportunity to break Parry for the match, but the Frenchwoman held serve to level the set at 5-5. Anisimova then held her own service game to move ahead 6-5, leaving Parry with the pressure of serving to stay in the match and potentially force a tiebreaker. Parry rose to the moment, held serve, and sent the set to a tiebreak.

In the tiebreak, both players were tied 3-3 before Parry seized control with a dominant run of seven straight points to win 10-3 and close out the match. The victory sends the 23-year-old Parry into the fourth round of Roland Garros for the first time in her career. She is scheduled to face unranked Maja Chwalinska on Monday, with a quarterfinal berth on the line.

Anisimova’s defeat added to an unusually long list of top seeds eliminated in the opening three rounds of this year’s French Open. Among the biggest names to fall were Jessica Pegula, Elena Rybakina, Alexander Bublik, Daniil Medvedev, Taylor Fritz, Ben Shelton, Jannik Sinner, Alex de Minaur and Novak Djokovic. The early exits have defined much of the tournament so far, creating a wide-open draw and paving the way for lower-seeded and unranked players to make deep runs.

For Parry, the win is one of the biggest of her career and a breakthrough moment on her home major. For Anisimova, it is a disappointing end to a promising run in a tournament that has already seen several favorites and top contenders eliminated before the second week.
