Serena Williams Set for Tennis Comeback at Queen’s Club

Serena Williams, widely regarded as the highest-earning female athlete in history, remains one of the most influential figures in sports. During her tennis career, she consistently drew massive crowds and became a global icon whose impact extended far beyond the court. Known for an exceptionally powerful serve, Williams also built her dominance on explosive groundstrokes, a strong return game and remarkable movement that made her one of the most complete players in the women’s game.

After retiring from professional tennis, Williams largely stepped away from the sport and focused more on her family life. In 2023, she gave birth to her second daughter, marking a new chapter away from competitive tennis. Even after leaving the tour, she has continued to attract public attention because of her status as one of the most recognizable athletes in the world.

Last year, Williams spoke on the US Today Show about her weight-loss journey, revealing that she had lost 31 pounds, or 14 kilograms, over the previous eight months. She described the challenge of managing her weight by comparing it to facing an “opponent,” a reflection of the competitive mindset that defined much of her tennis career. Williams said she had already been exercising intensely, including training for about five hours a day and doing activities such as running, walking, biking and stair climbing, but felt she needed to try a different approach.

Although she did not publicly name the weight-loss medication she was using, Williams had recently become a spokesperson for Ro, a company that offers GLP-1-based weight-loss treatments, including Wegovy and Zepbound, known as Mounjaro in the UK. Her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, is also an investor in the company.

Williams said she began noticing positive results from her efforts in the gym and was training for a half-marathon. She added that she was running farther than ever before, underscoring both her continued commitment to fitness and her determination to push herself in a new stage of life. The comments highlighted how the former tennis champion, even after retirement, continues to approach personal goals with the same discipline and drive that made her one of the greatest athletes of all time.
