Baby Found Safe After Carjacking Triggers Amber Alert in Alhambra

An Amber Alert issued in Alhambra for a missing 3-month-old boy was deactivated Friday night after the infant was found safe, authorities said. Police said the alert was triggered after a possible carjacking was reported near Hampden Terrace and Sherwood Avenue at about 5:25 p.m. According to investigators, the child’s mother had left a black Honda Civic running with the baby in the backseat while she briefly went inside a house. When she returned, the vehicle was gone.

Alhambra police said the suspected thief, described as an unknown man not related to the family, drove away with the infant inside the car, leading to the Amber Alert being issued around 7 p.m. The case quickly shifted when, about 30 minutes later, South Pasadena police were alerted to a possible sighting of the Honda Civic on Brent Avenue. Officers found the car running with its air conditioning on, and the baby was inside, safe and unharmed. Medics evaluated the child before he was reunited with his family.

As of Friday night, the suspect had not been arrested. Police described him as a man in his 30s, about 5-foot-10, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, blue or black pants, and carrying a black backpack.

Investigators said they believe the theft may have been random and that the suspect likely did not know a baby was inside the car when it was taken. Authorities are now asking residents in the area to review any security camera footage that may help identify the suspect or clarify the vehicle’s movements during the incident.

The discovery brought the incident to a close after a tense search involving multiple police agencies. Officials said the infant was not injured, and the alert was formally canceled once the child was recovered. The investigation remains active, and police have not released further details about how the vehicle was located or whether any additional evidence has been collected.

Alhambra police said the case remains under review and may develop further as investigators continue to search for the person responsible. Residents who may have seen the suspect or captured footage are being encouraged to come forward.
