PSG finalizes dream transfer as star says: “I have to wear this shirt”

Blaise Matuidi has revealed how strongly he had always wanted to play for Paris Saint-Germain, describing his years at the club as a dream fulfilled. Speaking about his time in Paris from 2011 to 2017, the former France midfielder said that growing up in the Paris region made PSG especially meaningful to him and that, as a young player, he felt he had to wear the club’s shirt. He said his attachment to the team was deep and long-standing, adding that he had always been a big supporter of PSG before joining the club.

Matuidi arrived during the major summer overhaul that followed Qatar’s takeover of PSG in 2011, when the club began an ambitious recruitment drive under Leonardo. He quickly became one of the most important players in the squad and later one of the most loved figures at the Parc des Princes. During his six seasons in the French capital, he built a reputation for consistency, intensity, and professionalism, and he credits PSG with teaching him the standards required to win regularly and handle pressure every few days.

In his comments to the JDD, Matuidi said that playing at the Parc des Princes for so many years was extraordinary and that PSG remains a major talking point whenever he returns to France. He also expressed pride in the club’s evolution, saying what Paris Saint-Germain has become is unprecedented in French football. According to him, the team has developed into something “magical,” with a fantastic squad and coach.

Matuidi also praised current PSG manager Luis Enrique, noting that the Spanish coach brought with him the methods and style he had used successfully at Barcelona. He highlighted the fact that PSG are now capable of winning without relying on traditional superstars, and he said that this collective strength is one of the reasons the club has reached such a high level. Reflecting on PSG’s past and present, Matuidi pointed to the famous midfield trio of Matuidi, Thiago Motta, and Marco Verratti, while acknowledging that today’s team has moved on to a different era.

For Matuidi, the club remains a source of immense pride, both for what it meant to his own career and for what it has become on the European stage. His remarks underline the emotional bond he still feels with PSG and the lasting impact his years in Paris had on his life and career.
