Liverpool FC Issues Official Statement

Arne’s time at Liverpool has ended after a highly successful spell that began when he joined the club in June 2024. In his first season in charge, he delivered Liverpool’s 20th league title and was named LMA Manager of the Year for the 2024-25 campaign. He also led the team to the Carabao Cup final and into the last 16 of the Champions League, marking an impressive debut season at Anfield.
In the 2025-26 season, Arne again guided Liverpool into the Champions League for a second consecutive year and took the club to the quarter-finals of the competition. Despite those achievements, Liverpool’s ownership said it had made the difficult decision that a change was needed to help the club continue moving forward. In a joint statement, the owners praised Arne’s work ethic, expertise, and leadership, saying his contribution had been significant, meaningful, and successful.
The statement highlighted that Arne did not just accept responsibility, he embraced it. The club said this was clear from the moment he agreed to take over as head coach, through Liverpool’s Premier League title-winning season, and during the challenges of the following campaign. The owners also said his leadership was particularly important during one of the most difficult periods the club has faced, following the loss of Diogo, and praised the compassion and humanity he showed at that time.
Liverpool said Arne will always hold a special place in the club’s history as the coach who delivered its 20th league title. The owners stressed that the decision to move in a different direction was not made lightly and did not diminish his achievements or reflect a lack of respect for him. Instead, they said it was based on the belief that a new approach was needed to keep the team’s progress on track.
The club also wished Arne well in the next stage of his coaching career, expressing confidence that he will remain successful. Liverpool said his legacy remains secure and that his place in the club’s history will become even more meaningful in the years ahead. The statement ended with a note of gratitude, saying Arne leaves with a Premier League title to his name and with an open invitation to return to Anfield with his family at any time.
