The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Announces Songs of the Past Expansion

CD PROJEKT RED announced on May 27, 2026, that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will receive a third expansion titled Songs of the Past, scheduled to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The new content will bring players back to the role of Geralt of Rivia in a fresh standalone adventure set in the world of the acclaimed open-world role-playing game.

The company said it is co-developing the expansion with Fool’s Theory, a studio made up of industry veterans, including developers who previously worked on The Witcher 3. According to the announcement, more details about Songs of the Past are expected in late summer 2026, suggesting that additional information on the story, gameplay, and release timing will arrive later this year.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, first released in 2015, remains one of the most successful and celebrated role-playing games ever made. CD PROJEKT RED said the title has sold more than 60 million copies worldwide and has earned more than 250 Game of the Year awards, along with more than 1,000 industry honors. Its enduring popularity has helped establish the game as a landmark in modern fantasy gaming.

Set in a dark fantasy world, The Witcher 3 follows Geralt of Rivia, a monster hunter known as a witcher, as he travels across a vast open world filled with political conflict, dangerous creatures, and difficult moral choices. The game’s central story focuses on Geralt’s search for his adopted daughter, Ciri, while players undertake contracts, explore kingdoms, and shape events through their decisions.

The announcement of Songs of the Past signals continued support for The Witcher 3 more than a decade after its original launch. It also highlights CD PROJEKT RED’s ongoing interest in expanding one of its most recognizable franchises. By returning to Geralt’s story, the company is giving longtime fans another chapter in a series that has remained highly influential in the action role-playing genre.

No further plot details, gameplay features, or expansion size were revealed in the announcement. However, the combination of a familiar protagonist, a returning development partner, and a 2027 release window indicates that the expansion is being positioned as a major addition to the game rather than a minor update.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt continues to be available on modern platforms and remains a key title in CD PROJEKT RED’s catalog. Songs of the Past now adds a new reason for players to revisit the world of Geralt of Rivia when the expansion arrives in 2027.
