2 Killed, 7 Injured as Severe Storm and Heavy Rain Lash Uttar Pradesh’s Jalaun

A severe storm accompanied by heavy rain and lightning struck Uttar Pradesh’s Jalaun district on Thursday night, killing two people and injuring at least seven others, officials said on Friday. The storm also caused the death of 23 animals and partially damaged 45 houses, according to the district disaster management authority’s damage report.

The deceased were identified as Sukhdevi, 55, a resident of Umrar Kheda locality in Orai, and Moolchand, 60, from Bajida village under the Kotwali area. Both died in storm-related incidents during the night of May 28, 2026. The district administration said it has initiated financial assistance of ₹4 lakh each for the families of the deceased under the government’s relief policy.

Officials said relief assistance of more than ₹12.88 lakh has been proposed for affected families. District Magistrate Rajesh Kumar Pandey and Superintendent of Police Vinay Kumar Singh remained in the field through the night to review damage and supervise relief and rescue operations in both rural and urban parts of the district.

Mr. Pandey inspected the government medical college, district hospital and other health facilities, and directed officials to ensure uninterrupted emergency services, including adequate medicines, beds, electricity backup and staff. He also instructed the revenue, health, electricity, police and urban local body departments to work in coordination so that affected families receive all possible support.

The administration said several electricity poles and power lines were damaged in the storm, and restoration work was being carried out on a war footing. Authorities said the situation in the district remained under control and relief and rehabilitation efforts were continuing.

The damage report said the storm left a trail of disruption across Jalaun, affecting homes, livestock and power infrastructure. Rescue and relief teams continued to assess losses and provide assistance to residents in affected areas.
