Kuss Joins Elite Club with Tour, Vuelta and Giro Stage Wins as Arensman Fades to Fourth

A 24-rider breakaway has formed in the race, with several strong climbers and all-rounders represented across the major teams. The leading group includes Caruso for Bahrain, Tarozzi for Bardiani, Rafferty and Van der Lee for EF Education, Kench for Groupama-FDJ, Ciccone for Lidl-Trek, Mas, López, Milesi and Rubio for Movistar, Hirt for NSN, De la Cruz and Harper for Pinarello-Q36.5, Vlasov and Zwiehoff for Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, Crescioli for Polti-Visit Malta, Kuss for Visma-Lease a Bike, Stork for Tudor, Poels for Unibet-Rose Rockets, Kulset for Uno-X, and Bettiol for XDS-Astana.

Behind the leaders, an eight-rider chase group is holding a gap of 40 seconds. That group features Gee-West for Lidl-Trek, Storer, Rondel and Barta for Tudor, Silva for Astana, Pinarello for NSN, and Sobrero for Lidl-Trek. A separate chaser, O’Connor of Jayco-AlUla, is 47 seconds behind the front. The main peloton trails by 1 minute and 8 seconds.

The race situation suggests a tense phase, with the breakaway having established a meaningful advantage but still within reach of the riders behind if the tempo increases. The composition of the leading group indicates both experience and climbing strength, which could make it difficult for the peloton to bring the escapees back quickly. Riders such as Ciccone, Mas, López, Kuss, Vlasov and Poels give the move significant quality, while the presence of multiple team representatives could help the leaders cooperate to extend the gap.

The chase group remains close enough to keep the break under pressure, and the separation between the front group, the chase, and the peloton could shift rapidly depending on the terrain and the pace set by the teams behind. If the leaders continue to work together, the breakaway may stay clear for longer. If the peloton organizes a stronger pursuit, the time gaps could narrow quickly.

At this stage, the race is split into three distinct parts: a sizeable and powerful leading group, a smaller chase, and the main field just over a minute back. The coming kilometers will likely decide whether the breakaway survives or whether the contenders in the peloton can regain control before the decisive moments of the stage.
