Lily Allen Puts a Sharp Twist on the Crop Top Trend

Lily Allen brought her signature risk-taking style to London for the UK launch party of Marc Jacobs Beauty, hosted with Katie Grand’s Perfect magazine at Decimo inside The Standard London. Known for turning heads with daring fashion choices, Allen leaned into a playful nighttime look that blended whimsy, polish, and references to her own music and public persona.

For the event, Allen wore a light blue crop sweater from Marc Jacobs’ namesake line. The top featured a rounded scalloped hem that recalled the spring daisy motif often associated with the designer. She balanced the softer, daytime feel of the sweater with a black silk miniskirt, sheer tights, and a gold wristwatch, giving the outfit a more refined evening finish. Her footwear added another statement: exaggerated Mary Jane heels from Jacobs’ 2025 collection, designed with buckled front straps, thick heels, and rounded toes for a doll-like effect.

Allen also used accessories to add meaning to the look. A longtime Chanel ambassador and muse, she wore floral crystal drop earrings from the French house and carried a white leather version of Chanel’s quilted flap bag. The bag carried extra symbolism for Allen, whose recent music has referenced her personal life and the role of handbags in that narrative. After the release of her album West End Girl, her song “4chan stan” alluded to a handbag purchase linked to her ex-husband David Harbour, and Allen later drew attention by shopping at Bergdorf Goodman with Harper’s Bazaar editor Lynette Nylander, documenting the outing on Instagram.

The London appearance also underscored Marc Jacobs’ current momentum in both beauty and fashion. The relaunch of Marc Jacobs Beauty with Coty has gained strong attention, with several products reportedly selling out in multiple shades soon after release. The comeback marks a major return for a brand that paused its original beauty line in 2021. In fashion, Jacobs has continued to build acclaim through off-calendar runway presentations in New York, often drawing inspiration from 1960s style and the exaggerated, playful proportions of dolls and dollhouse aesthetics.

Jacobs recently described that creative approach in an interview on the beauty podcast Fat Mascara, saying that he sees fashion as a kind of play with dolls, where clothes, makeup, and hair are all part of building a look for someone else. That philosophy was visible in the event itself, where Allen’s outfit captured the same mix of irony, imagination, and precision that has defined Jacobs’ latest work.

The night reflected a meeting of two strong personal styles: Allen’s ability to turn fashion into commentary, and Jacobs’ fascination with playful proportion and stylized glamour. Together, they created a moment that connected music, beauty, and fashion in a way that felt both current and distinctly individual.
