Anna Faris Hints at the Possibility of a House Bunny Sequel

Anna Faris has reignited interest in a possible sequel to The House Bunny, the 2008 comedy in which she played Shelly Darlington, a former Playboy Bunny who becomes the house mother of a sorority. Speaking at the Scary Movie premiere, Faris said she would “love” to talk about House Bunny plans and confirmed there is some interest in revisiting the film, though she stressed that nothing has been officially set.
The comment quickly generated attention because The House Bunny has developed a loyal fan base over the years. Fans have long embraced the film’s mix of comedy, makeover chaos, and feel-good friendship story. Faris acknowledged that the movie and her character have become beloved, saying it is still too early to say whether a sequel will happen. Her remarks were enough to spark a wave of excitement online, with viewers calling for a Zeta Alpha Zeta reunion.
Released in 2008, The House Bunny follows Shelly after she is forced out of the Playboy Mansion and becomes house mother to the socially awkward members of Zeta Alpha Zeta. As she helps the sorority women gain confidence and self-acceptance, Shelly also discovers her own strengths. The film featured a notable cast including Colin Hanks, Emma Stone, Kat Dennings, Katherine McPhee and Rumer Willis, along with cameo appearances by Hugh Hefner, Shaquille O’Neal, and several former Playboy Bunnies.
Faris has spoken before about how the movie came together. She originally developed the idea herself and brought it to screenwriters Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah. The project was rejected repeatedly before eventually being picked up by Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions. Faris later recalled that Sandler approved the concept almost immediately after hearing the premise.
She has also said the film was important to her professionally. In earlier interviews, Faris explained that she grew tired of waiting for men to cast her in comedies and decided to create her own opportunity. She served not only as the star of the movie but also as one of its executive producers, strengthening her creative role behind the scenes.
Over the years, Faris has described The House Bunny as a life-changing experience. She has said the role helped shape her personally as well as professionally, especially because Shelly was a character defined by kindness, generosity and encouragement rather than competition. Faris has also shared sequel ideas in past interviews, joking about different directions the character could take, including a country singer or a CIA interrogator.
For now, a sequel remains only a possibility. Still, Faris’ latest comments have revived nostalgia for the original film and renewed hopes that Shelly Darlington could one day return to the screen.
