Star Fox Gets Day-One Update on Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo has confirmed that the upcoming Star Fox game for Nintendo Switch 2 will receive a day one update adding major features at launch. The patch will enable Battle Mode, support for GameChat character avatars, and AR filters, expanding the game’s social and multiplayer options from the start.

Battle Mode is a 4-versus-4 competitive mode built around dogfights, with up to eight players split between Team Star Fox and Team Star Wolf. The mode includes three distinct stages, each with its own objective. On Corneria, players will compete to secure control of a designated zone. On Fichina, the objective is to collect energy crystals. In Sector Y, players will focus on gathering cargo from space pirates. Nintendo has also confirmed that online multiplayer will be supported, along with GameShare, giving players additional ways to join matches and share the experience.

The update also adds support for GameChat character avatars, allowing players to appear as different Star Fox characters during conversations. These avatars are designed to mirror a player’s expressions and movements, making the feature more interactive and visually responsive. In addition, AR Filters will let users customize their appearance with Star Fox-themed effects, such as adding animal ears or a Falco-inspired beak that moves while speaking.

The new Star Fox game is scheduled to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on June 25, 2026. The day one update means that several of its headline social and multiplayer features will be available immediately when the game goes on sale. The inclusion of Battle Mode, online play, GameShare, and GameChat support suggests a strong emphasis on competitive and shared play experiences alongside the main game.

Nintendo’s confirmation adds more clarity to what players can expect at launch, especially for those interested in multiplayer content and Switch 2’s communication features. With Battle Mode, avatar integration, and AR filters included in the initial update, the game is positioned as a feature-rich release from day one.
