Reid Powers Unbeaten Rangers Past Silvertips at Memorial Cup

Jack Pridham scored two goals and Cameron Reid contributed a goal and three assists as the Kitchener Rangers defeated the Everett Silvertips 6-2 on Monday, earning their second straight win at the Memorial Cup tournament. The Ontario Hockey League champions improved to 2-0 and strengthened their position in the round-robin standings with a balanced offensive performance and effective special teams play.

Kitchener set the tone early, taking a 2-1 lead after the first period before extending the margin to 5-2 by the end of the second. Christian Humphreys, Gabriel Chiarot and Cameron Arquette also found the net for the Rangers, who continued to build on their opening success at Prospera Place.

Everett, the Western Hockey League champions, entered the game with momentum but dropped to 1-1 after struggling to keep pace with Kitchener’s attack. Rylan Gould finished with a goal and an assist, while Matias Vanhanen added the Silvertips’ other goal. Despite outshooting the Rangers 42-28, Everett was unable to turn possession into enough scoring chances to close the gap.

Special teams proved important in the result. The Silvertips converted once on four power-play opportunities, while the Rangers scored on one of their two chances. Kitchener also showed greater efficiency at even strength, capitalizing on key moments to separate itself on the scoreboard.

The victory gave the Rangers consecutive wins in the tournament and positioned them well heading into their next matchup. They will face the Chicoutimi Sagueneens, who are also 1-1, on Tuesday. Everett will return to action on Wednesday against the host Kelowna Rockets, who are still seeking their first win at 0-2.

Kitchener’s latest performance highlighted the depth and pace that have made the club an early standout at the Memorial Cup. With Pridham’s scoring touch, Reid’s playmaking and contributions throughout the lineup, the Rangers controlled the game when it mattered most and left Everett looking for answers after a strong shot differential failed to translate into a win.
