Spectacular Fire in Villeneuve-Loubet, Explosions Heard for Miles Around – News Update

A fire broke out on Wednesday, June 10, around 10 p.m. in an industrial zone in Villeneuve-Loubet, in the Alpes-Maritimes department of southeastern France. The blaze started in a warehouse on Avenue des Maurettes and was accompanied by loud blasts that alarmed nearby residents. Witnesses reported seeing tall flames and a thick plume of black smoke rising into the night sky before firefighters were able to bring the situation under control.
Several residents living close to the scene said the fire spread very quickly. One neighbor told France 3 Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur that the building “caught fire in five minutes,” while another said explosions began shortly after the flames appeared. The sounds were reportedly heard several kilometers away, and images and videos of the incident were widely shared on social media by people in the area. Journalist Nathalie Layani also recorded one of the detonations and posted the video on her X account.
Emergency services responded with a large deployment to contain the fire as quickly as possible. About 40 firefighters and at least 14 vehicles were mobilized at the scene. Their priority was to stop the flames from spreading beyond the warehouse and to secure the surrounding area. During the operation, families living in the building immediately next to the burning warehouse were evacuated to a nearby residence for safety.
Firefighters continued working through the night to fully extinguish the blaze. The fire was reported as under control shortly after midnight, although crews remained on site until the early morning to finish putting out hot spots and ensure the area was safe. No injuries were reported in the available account, but the incident caused strong concern among local residents because of the explosions and the intensity of the fire.
