Simone Biles Reveals Health Scare, Says She ‘Almost Died’

Simone Biles said on Saturday that she recently experienced a serious health scare and described it as a moment when she “almost died,” though she did not reveal any details about what happened.
The 29-year-old gymnast, the most decorated in her sport, shared the update on Instagram Stories and said she normally keeps private matters to herself. She thanked people around her for their support and said the incident was unexpected. Biles posted a photo of three hospital wristbands, suggesting she had received medical attention, but she did not say where she was treated or what caused the emergency.
Biles called it one of the scariest experiences of her life and said she had spent the week resting in bed. She also shared images of flowers and thanked members of her close circle for checking in, visiting and sending gifts during the difficult time.
In her posts, Biles indicated that her husband, NFL safety Jonathan Owens, was in Indianapolis for practice sessions when the scare happened. Owens currently plays for the Indianapolis Colts. Biles said the timing made the situation more difficult, but added that she would explain more later.
She also posted a separate image showing two dogs on a bed with the message “I’ll be here,” along with a screenshot of a heart-rate monitor, but did not provide any further context.
Biles and Owens live in Spring, Texas, near Houston. The couple were recently seen together at a St. Louis Cardinals game on May 29, when Owens threw out the ceremonial first pitch. Biles later shared photos from that outing on Instagram on Friday, shortly before revealing her health scare.
The gymnast’s post drew attention because of its seriousness and the limited information she provided. Biles has long been one of the most closely followed athletes in the world, with 41 Olympic and world championship medals combined. Her latest message focused on recovery, gratitude and privacy, but left open many questions about the nature of the incident.
No additional details were immediately available, and representatives for Biles did not respond to requests for comment on Saturday.
