PNP on Full Alert for Independence Day, Deploys 89,000 Personnel

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has placed all its units on full alert and will deploy 89,473 police officers and force multipliers nationwide for the country’s 2026 Independence Day celebrations. The full alert status took effect at 5 p.m. on June 11 and will remain in force until 11:59 p.m. on June 12, according to the PNP statement released on Thursday.
Full alert status is the highest level of operational readiness in the police force. It is intended to ensure continuous deployment capability, rapid response, and sustained security coverage throughout Independence Day events and public activities.
The PNP said the nationwide deployment will include 77,020 police officers, 1,975 personnel from support units, and 10,478 force multipliers. Around 16,000 personnel will be assigned in the National Capital Region, where large crowds are expected.
Security teams will be positioned in key locations such as Rizal Park or Luneta, historic monuments, government facilities, transport terminals, major roads, and other public gathering areas. The police said these areas were chosen because they are likely to draw significant numbers of people during the holiday observance.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the tightened security will also cover the Senate in Pasay City and the House of Representatives in Quezon City. He said this is being done because of possible protest actions linked to the current political situation.
Despite the increased security posture, Nartatez said the police have not monitored any validated threat against this year’s Independence Day celebrations. He said authorities will continue to make real-time adjustments based on threat assessments, intelligence gathering, and conditions on the ground.
The expanded security preparations followed a meeting last week between Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla and top police officials. They discussed security arrangements for Independence Day as well as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fifth State of the Nation Address next month.
The PNP also said it has not received verified intelligence reports supporting claims that groups aligned with the Dutertes plan to storm Malacañang on June 12.
The police said the full alert status is meant to ensure that personnel are ready to respond quickly to any incident while maintaining public safety during national celebrations. Officials emphasized that the deployment is precautionary and based on ongoing assessments rather than confirmed threats.
