Fear of Leaving Special Cell, Market Books and a Debt Plan: Vorcaro’s Days in Prison Before PF Rejected Plea Deal

On Thursday, the situation of Daniel Vorcaro suffered a double setback. The Federal Police rejected again his proposal for a cooperation agreement and asked Supreme Federal Court Justice André Mendonça to remove the businessman from the Federal Police detention unit in Brasília. If the request is granted, Vorcaro could be transferred back to the Federal Penitentiary in Brasília. Mendonça had not issued a decision as of the latest report, but the move marked another blow to Vorcaro’s legal strategy.

According to people who have been with him at the Federal Police superintendency, the businessman has been going through a period of emotional instability. His routine has alternated between moments devoted to exercise and reading and episodes marked by tension, anguish, loneliness and even crying. The sources said his condition has reflected the pressure of his legal situation and the uncertainty surrounding his future custody status.

Vorcaro’s defense expects Mendonça to decide on his fate on Friday, after also hearing from the Office of the Attorney General, known in Brazil as the PGR. The ruling will be important because it may determine whether he remains in the police detention facility or is moved back to the federal prison system.

Inside the cell, Vorcaro does not have access to television and has spent much of his time reading and working out. People close to him said he has already read more than fifty books during his time in custody. Most of them are biographies or books about financial market crises, a subject closely connected to his own experience. The Bible reportedly remains at his bedside and is part of his daily routine.

The new denial by the Federal Police adds pressure to Vorcaro at a moment when he had been trying to secure a cooperation deal. The latest developments suggest that his position remains fragile and that his immediate future will depend on Mendonça’s decision after the PGR’s opinion.
