Olivia Rodrigo’s New Album Is Filled With Heartfelt Sad Love Songs
Olivia Rodrigo has announced her third studio album, titled You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, with a release date set for June 12. The title marks a shift from her previous albums, Sour and Guts, both of which used short, four-letter names. While Rodrigo has revealed the album title and cover, she has not yet shared a full tracklist or many other details about the project.
In a recent interview with British Vogue, Rodrigo said the record includes “sad love songs” and explained that she was drawn to romantic music that blends beauty with tension. She said her favorite love songs often carry “a tinge of fear or yearning,” suggesting that the new album may explore emotional vulnerability, uncertainty, and longing as central themes.
Rodrigo also hinted at the inspiration behind one of the songs, describing herself as “very stubborn” when she likes someone. She suggested the track reflects a strong sense of determination and romantic intensity, while also making clear that the person who inspired it is “great.” Her comments imply that the song is rooted in real feelings and personal experience, a hallmark of much of her songwriting so far.
Another song on the album, she said, captures “what I think being in love feels like.” According to Rodrigo, falling in love can bring a person to the core of their own emotions and insecurities, revealing both the joyful and uncomfortable sides of intimacy. She described it as the “most raw form” of oneself, calling it scary, terrifying, and uncomfortable at times, but also beautiful. Her remarks suggest that the album will continue her focus on honest, emotionally direct songwriting, while delving deeper into the complexities of romance and self-reflection.
Rodrigo also spoke about how spending time in the UK influenced the album, saying her relationship with Louis Partridge helped shape her recent experiences in London. She said she found a lot of inspiration in the city and spent significant time there while making the record. Several songs, she explained, have “London vibes” and draw from experiences she had while living and working there. This hints that the album may carry some geographic and cultural influence from her time in the British capital, adding a new layer to the sound and storytelling.
Though Rodrigo has not yet revealed more specific details, her comments point to a record centered on love, fear, yearning, and emotional self-discovery. With the album’s release approaching, fans are left waiting for more information about the songs, themes, and musical direction of what appears to be one of her most personal projects yet.
