Jordan Bardella in Love with Princess Maria Carolina: “I Love Her and I’m Proud of Her”

Jordan Bardella used a televised interview on May 28 to publicly reaffirm his relationship with Maria Carolina de Bourbon des Deux-Siciles, the woman he is dating and whose aristocratic background differs sharply from his own working-class origins. Speaking on LCI during a long-form interview with Darius Rochebin, the president of the National Rally was first asked about his private life at the end of the program and responded with an affectionate declaration. He said that before any symbolic considerations tied to history, politics, or a possible future role as France’s first lady, she is simply “the person I love.” He emphasized that he values her for who she is rather than for her name, and said he is very proud of her and hopes the French public will have the chance to discover her as he has.

The discussion then turned to questions of social class and the striking contrast between Bardella’s background and that of his partner. When asked whether he was becoming a candidate for the “jet-set,” Bardella pushed back, saying that not everything is political and that people are free to live with someone from a wealthier background. He acknowledged that he and his partner come from very different worlds, but insisted that this is no secret and should not matter. What matters, he said, is the woman he is with and the qualities she brings to the relationship. He described the money held by his partner and her family as secondary, making clear that his personal life is not defined by wealth or social status.

Bardella also defended his own origins, saying he comes from a popular, working-class environment and is proud of it. He suggested that his background has already been used against him in a condescending way, citing criticisms that he lacked elite schooling or academic prestige. In his view, those judgments have long been part of the public scrutiny he faces. He added that he is happy in his relationship and that keeping it entirely private had become increasingly difficult. That, he explained, is part of why the couple chose to make their relationship public through the press.

The interview offered a rare glimpse into the personal side of one of France’s most prominent far-right political figures. Rather than treating his relationship as a matter of image management, Bardella framed it as a simple expression of affection and loyalty. He portrayed the differences in background between himself and his partner not as a scandal or contradiction, but as a normal part of life. His remarks were intended to make clear that, despite political attention and media curiosity, his relationship is grounded in personal choice rather than status, money, or strategy.
