Janones celebra derrota de André Fernandes em ato com Luizianne

Brazilian federal deputy André Janones (Rede-MG) visited Fortaleza on Saturday, May 23, to attend the affiliation event of a political group led by federal deputy Luizianne Lins, which joined the Sustainability Network party. During the event, Janones sharply attacked deputy André Fernandes (PL), with whom he has clashed repeatedly on social media.
Janones said Fortaleza “almost elected the worst on the other side,” referring to Fernandes’ strong performance in the 2024 municipal election, when the PL lawmaker advanced to the runoff against incumbent mayor Evandro Leitão (PT). He argued that Fernandes came close to taking control of City Hall and credited voters and political mobilization in Fortaleza for preventing that outcome.
In his remarks, Janones also used harsh language to describe Fernandes, calling him a “dictator’s mascot” and warning that political vigilance is still necessary. He said the situation showed that supporters could not lower their guard in future elections, suggesting that the political dispute in Fortaleza remains intense and symbolic beyond the local race itself.
The event also highlighted discussion about Luizianne Lins’ possible role in the next election cycle. Janones publicly argued that the Sustainability Network should nominate her for the Senate race, saying the people of Fortaleza had “called” on her to run for the upper house. His comments added momentum to speculation about her political future and potential candidacy.
However, Luizianne Lins, who recently left the Workers’ Party, has not confirmed any decision about whether she will run in this year’s election. Her position remains open, and no formal announcement has been made regarding a Senate bid or any other electoral plan.
The gathering in Fortaleza brought together party activists and allies around the Sustainability Network’s local organization, while also turning into a platform for national-level political criticism. Janones’ remarks underscored the ongoing rivalry between progressive and right-wing figures in Ceará’s capital, as well as the broader tensions shaping Brazil’s political environment.
The episode reflects how the aftermath of the 2024 municipal election continues to influence political discourse in Fortaleza. Fernandes’ near victory in that contest remains a point of dispute for opponents, while supporters of the current administration cite it as evidence of the need for continued political engagement.
Janones’ speech combined local political messaging with broader partisan attacks, reinforcing his role as an outspoken figure in Brazil’s congressional and social media debates. The comments also showed that Luizianne Lins’ name continues to carry weight in discussions about future elections, even as her candidacy remains undecided.
