Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Game Trailer Revealed
Square Enix has officially revealed “Final Fantasy VII: Revelation” as the third and final entry in its Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy. The game is scheduled to launch in Spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X and S, and PC, timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the original Final Fantasy VII. The announcement was made during Summer Game Fest at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Friday, alongside the debut of a trailer and first gameplay footage.
The new title continues the story after the events of the previous remake installments and serves as the climactic conclusion to the trilogy. According to Square Enix, the game follows Cloud Strife and his allies as they confront a world on the verge of destruction. The team is mourning the loss of a beloved companion while their enemy Sephiroth moves closer to godlike power. As the threat of Meteor looms, Cloud’s group boards the airship Highwind and travels across the planet in a desperate attempt to prevent total annihilation.
Square Enix says the journey will take players across the entire world with freely explorable regions and new areas designed for a broader sense of adventure. The company also highlighted the return of Vincent Valentine, voiced by Matthew Mercer, who appeared during the reveal event, as well as Cid Highwind, the outspoken pilot of the Highwind. Combat in the new game will also include a new job system, expanding the series’ battle mechanics as the characters work together to face their final challenge.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi said he was excited to announce the project and thanked fans for supporting the story over many years. He described the game’s theme as centered on “resolve,” with Cloud and his companions confronting their convictions as they move toward the final battle that will decide the planet’s fate. Hamaguchi said the accumulated stories and emotions of the series will come together in this final chapter in a way that is intended to feel especially satisfying for players.
“Final Fantasy VII: Revelation” marks the end of one of Square Enix’s most prominent modern projects, bringing the remake saga to a close after years of anticipation. The simultaneous multi-platform release also signals a broader strategy for the franchise, making the final chapter available to a wide audience from day one. With its mix of returning characters, large-scale exploration, and a story built around the series’ most iconic conflict, the game is being positioned as a major release for 2027.
