Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Addresses Whether Maddy and Alamo Had Sex in Euphoria

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has clarified one of the biggest unanswered questions from Euphoria season 3: whether his character, Alamo, slept with Maddy. Speaking at the MPTF NextGen Summer Party on Sunday, May 31, the actor said the scene was intentionally layered and that Alamo had carefully planned the entire encounter, from the bathing suit to the music and champagne. He explained that the moment was meant to be flirtatious on the surface but carried an ominous undertone, with Alamo expecting Maddy to do what he wanted.
Akinnuoye-Agbaje suggested that the implication was clear even though the show did not explicitly show what happened. He said Alamo was not simply there for harmless fun and indicated that, in his view, the character did follow through with what was needed to secure the $1 million Maddy was seeking to save Nate.
The confusion among viewers began after an earlier episode showed Alamo asking Maddy to put on a bathing suit and join him in a hot tub. He then agreed to help her get the money, but the scene ended before their interaction was fully revealed. The uncertainty continued in the season 3 finale, when Maddy visited Alamo at his strip club. There, Alamo flirted with her, talked about having four children together, and began touching her before the moment again cut away amid an implied kiss. The scene was interrupted when Ali arrived, seeking revenge for Rue’s death.
Akinnuoye-Agbaje also addressed the possibility of backlash over Alamo’s role in Rue’s fatal overdose. He said Euphoria has a passionate fan base and that the audience has made the show what it is. In his view, the character and the story belong to the viewers as much as anyone else, and he sees his own role as part of a larger creative whole.
The actor then spoke about whether Euphoria could continue despite creator Sam Levinson saying the series is over. He said the show’s world still has room to expand beyond Rue’s point of view, especially now that her death could open the story to other characters and their backstories. He pointed to the potential to explore figures such as Laurie’s group, Alamo’s circle, and Rue’s friends in greater depth.
While he did not confirm any future plans, Akinnuoye-Agbaje said television always leaves room for more stories if creators choose to continue them. For now, Euphoria remains available to stream on HBO Max.
