Euphoria Season 3 Finale Spoiler: Character Dies, Just Jared Reports

Euphoria season three has ended with a major and emotional twist in its eighth episode on HBO Max, as the series delivered another shocking death after earlier fueling speculation that the show could be concluding. The finale follows a season already marked by intense consequences, including the apparent death of Jacob Elordi’s Nate Jacobs earlier in the story after he was bitten by a rattlesnake while trapped underground in a box with only a breathing hole. That event set the stage for a darker ending, and the final episode pushed the drama even further by killing off another central character.

In the finale, the plot turns after it is revealed that Zendaya’s Rue has been working with the DEA, information that was passed along by her friend Maddy in the previous episode. Once this comes to light, Alamo is pushed toward taking action against Rue. Her boss, played by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, gives her painkillers that are laced with fentanyl, leading to her overdose. The scene marks one of the series’ most devastating moments and changes the emotional direction of the season’s ending.

After Rue dies, Ali, her sponsor, played by Colman Domingo, discovers her body on his couch and is left shattered by the loss. The episode then shows Ali setting out on a path of revenge against Alamo, believing he is responsible for Rue’s death. This reaction underscores the finale’s focus on grief, betrayal, and the destructive chain of events that has defined much of the season.

Rue’s death has long been the subject of rumors surrounding Euphoria season three, so the twist may not come as a complete surprise to viewers following speculation about the show’s direction. The possibility that the series could be ending after this season has also circulated widely, though no official confirmation has been made. The finale appears to deepen that uncertainty by giving one of the show’s most important characters a tragic exit.

Zendaya herself has hinted at the series’ possible end in earlier public comments. During an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show earlier this year, she was asked whether this would be the final season. She replied, “I think so, yeah,” and said that “closure is coming.” Her remarks added to the sense that the story may be moving toward a definitive conclusion.

Reflecting on her experience with the series, Zendaya said Euphoria “cracked my heart open” and explained that Rue taught her about life, empathy, and redemption. She also expressed gratitude to the cast and crew, saying the show helped her grow up and left a lasting impact on her. Her comments now feel especially significant in light of the season’s bleak ending, which leaves the future of Euphoria uncertain and fans reeling from another major loss.
