KJ Dillard Reveals Hospitalization, Diagnosis and Recovery Journey

During Part 1 of the Summer House Season 10 reunion, KJ Dillard shared a deeply personal update about his mental health, revealing that he had been hospitalized after self-harm and later diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. He told host Andy Cohen that he spent a week in the hospital and described the experience as a turning point in his life.
Dillard said that castmates Mia Calabrese and Ciara Miller visited him nearly every day during his recovery, and he became emotional while reflecting on the months that followed. He explained that the time forced him to focus on himself and address issues he had been avoiding for years. According to Dillard, he had often distracted himself from personal struggles instead of confronting them directly.
The reality star also said he is currently in therapy and taking medication as part of his ongoing mental health care. He acknowledged that in the past he had tried to cope through impulsive behavior, including tattoos and piercings, but said those choices did not solve the underlying problems. Dillard’s comments drew a strong response from the cast, who offered visible support during the reunion.
He also spoke about borderline personality disorder, a mental health condition marked by unstable relationships, intense emotional reactions, fear of abandonment, and difficulty regulating emotions. Dillard’s discussion highlighted the impact of the disorder on his life and the recovery process he has been working through. He said he felt grateful to be alive and said he was thankful for the support he has received from friends, castmates, and viewers.
Dillard stressed that he wants to be honest about what he is going through, especially if sharing his experience can help others facing similar challenges. His openness was met with empathy from the reunion panel, with Jesse becoming emotional after hearing him speak. Part 2 of the Summer House reunion is scheduled to air on June 2.
