IPL History’s Most Duck Outs: Rohit Sharma and Glenn Maxwell Among 5 Players with the Most Ducks

In the history of the Indian Premier League, some of the biggest names in cricket have also registered the unwanted record of getting out for a duck multiple times. After Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma was dismissed for a duck against Rajasthan Royals in his team’s final league-stage match in IPL 2026, he moved to the top of the all-time list alongside Australia’s Glenn Maxwell. Both players have now been dismissed for a duck 19 times in the IPL.
Glenn Maxwell holds the record for the most ducks in IPL history, with 19 dismissals without scoring in 141 matches. His aggressive batting style has often brought quick runs, but it has also led to occasional failures at the start of his innings. Rohit Sharma, one of the most experienced batters in IPL history, has matched that number after playing 281 matches in the tournament. His latest duck in IPL 2026 brought him level with Maxwell at the top of this unwanted list.
Behind the top two is wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik, who has been dismissed for a duck 18 times in 257 IPL matches. Known for his long IPL career and finishing abilities, Karthik has still had several innings where he could not open his account. Also tied on 18 ducks is Sunil Narine, the West Indies all-rounder who has played 202 IPL matches. Narine has been a valuable contributor with both bat and ball, but his batting has also produced multiple low scores, including many first-ball dismissals.
Piyush Chawla completes the list of the five players with the most ducks in IPL history. The veteran leg-spinner has been dismissed for a duck 16 times in 192 IPL matches. Although primarily selected for his bowling, Chawla has also had several unfortunate innings where he was unable to score.
This list shows how even the most established and successful players in the IPL can fall victim to ducks, a statistic that reflects the unpredictability of T20 cricket. A duck is often remembered more sharply than many useful innings, especially when it comes from well-known names with long careers. Rohit Sharma’s latest dismissal has added a new chapter to this rare but notable IPL record, placing him alongside Glenn Maxwell at the top of the all-time standings for ducks.
