UFC Champion Sean Strickland Pulled From Freedom 250 Event

UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland caused a commotion at the UFC Freedom 250 event in Washington, D.C., on Sunday, June 14, 2026, after showing up at the White House South Lawn gathering and drawing a large amount of attention from attendees. According to the United States Park Police Public Information Office, Strickland’s unexpected presence led to disorder, prompting U.S. Marshals Service personnel, U.S. Park Police, and other assisting agencies to safely remove him from the area for his own safety and the safety of event patrons.
Authorities said Strickland, 35, was not cited or arrested. He was instructed not to return to the venue and was later transported back to his hotel without incident. The fighter documented the situation on Instagram Stories, where he questioned whether he had broken any law and joked that he might have been charged with disorderly conduct. He also thanked fans for their support and said being “banned” meant a lot to him.
In another Instagram post, Strickland shared a photo of officers escorting him away from the event and wrote that he was “not American enough,” thanking supporters and praising MMA fans. The event, UFC Freedom 250, was presented by the UFC as part of an early celebration of the United States’ 250th Independence anniversary and also as a tribute to President Donald Trump’s 80th birthday.
Strickland later claimed that he had been banned from the event, but UFC CEO Dana White rejected that characterization. White said Strickland was not banned and suggested he simply was not invited. He also criticized Strickland’s behavior, saying the fighter had previously caused problems at other events and was not wanted around attendees. White added that no media members or performers had been banned from the event.
The incident drew attention because Strickland had previously been one of Trump’s more vocal supporters in combat sports. However, in recent days he has taken a more critical stance, posting on June 9, 2026, that he stopped supporting Trump after the administration’s response to military strikes on Iran. His comments reflected a public break from his earlier backing of the president.
The episode added another layer of controversy to UFC Freedom 250, an event already tied closely to politics, patriotism, and Trump’s public image. Strickland’s removal, his online posts, and White’s remarks quickly turned the moment into a widely discussed flashpoint among UFC fans and political observers.
