Tornado Watch Issued for Most of Southeast Michigan Until 2 a.m.

A tornado watch is in effect for most of Southeast Michigan until 2 a.m. Friday, including Livingston, Wayne, Washtenaw, Oakland, Macomb, St. Clair, Lapeer, Lenawee and Monroe counties. An organized line of thunderstorms is expected to move across Southeast Michigan and Metro Detroit through the early morning hours, bringing the risk of damaging winds up to 70 mph, tornadoes and large hail. Residents are being urged to stay alert as the severe weather threat develops overnight.
Rain and storms are likely tonight, and some of the storms could become severe before the system moves out around 2 a.m. Overnight lows should settle into the mid-60s with southwest winds at 10 to 20 mph. The main concern is wind damage, though isolated tornadoes and hail remain possible as the storm line tracks through the region.
Conditions improve on Friday as the cold front passes. The day is expected to be calmer, less humid and still warm. Morning clouds will give way to more sunshine later in the day, with highs reaching the low 80s. West-northwest winds will remain breezy at 15 to 20 mph, but the overall weather should feel much more comfortable than the previous day.
The dry and warmer pattern continues into Saturday. Mostly sunny skies are forecast, along with highs in the mid to upper 80s. Humidity will be lower than earlier in the week, making the heat more manageable. Winds should stay light to moderate from the west-southwest at 10 to 20 mph.
Another cold front is expected to arrive Sunday morning, bringing another chance for rain and a few thunderstorms, especially during the first half of the day. After that, cooler air is likely to settle in across the region.
Looking ahead to next week, temperatures are expected to trend cooler, with many days topping out in the 70s. After a stormy and potentially dangerous night, Southeast Michigan should see a more pleasant end to the week, followed by a warm but less humid weekend and a cooler pattern early next week.
