Ne-Yo to Perform in Cape Town and Pretoria This October, Bringing Grammy-Winning Tour to South Africa

Three-time Grammy Award-winning R&B star Ne-Yo will return to South Africa for two live performances in October 2026, with shows confirmed for Cape Town and Pretoria. Promoters Vertex Events announced that the singer, songwriter and performer will take the stage at Grand Arena, GrandWest in Cape Town on Saturday, 17 October 2026, before performing at SunBet Arena in Pretoria on Sunday, 18 October 2026.

Born Shaffer Chimere Smith, Ne-Yo has built a major following in South Africa over the past two decades through a catalogue of global hits and a reputation as one of R&B’s most consistent hitmakers. His career breakthrough came in 2005 with So Sick, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and earned quadruple platinum certification. He followed that success with a string of well-known songs including Sexy Love, Because of You, Miss Independent, Closer and Push Back, featuring Bebe Rexha and Stefflon Don.

Beyond his own recordings, Ne-Yo has also had a strong impact as a songwriter. He wrote or co-wrote several major hits for other artists, including Rihanna’s Unfaithful, Take a Bow and Russian Roulette, as well as Beyoncé’s Irreplaceable. His songwriting credits also include work for Jennifer Hudson, Usher, Carrie Underwood, Céline Dion and Mario, among others, helping establish him as one of the defining music creators of his generation.

The South African concerts come at a time of creative change for the artist. Ne-Yo’s upcoming album Highway 79 is scheduled for release on 10 July 2026 and was recorded entirely in Nashville. The project is inspired by his roots, with the title referencing both his birth year, 1979, and Highway 79 in Arkansas, where he was born. The lead single Ms. Tundra signals a country-influenced direction while still retaining elements of his familiar R&B style. The track is described as an energetic, line-dance-ready song built around upbeat instrumentation and communal movement.

Fans attending the October shows may hear new material from the album shortly after its release, giving the performances added significance for audiences eager to experience Ne-Yo’s evolving sound live. In addition to music, Ne-Yo has also established a presence in television and film through appearances in productions such as BMF, Step Up: High Water, World of Dance, Dance Monsters, Empire, Stomp the Yard, Save the Last Dance, Battle: Los Angeles, Red Tails, The Wiz Live!, Hip Hop Family Christmas Wedding and The Sound of Christmas.

Vertex Events Executive Director Thato Segaole said the company was pleased to bring an artist of Ne-Yo’s stature to local audiences, describing the upcoming concerts as a chance to present timeless music through carefully produced live shows. Tickets for both South African dates are on sale now through Webtickets and Pick n Pay stores nationwide, with prices starting at R950. Gates will open at 6pm on both show days.
