TVK Government Should Be Given Time: P. Chidambaram

Congress senior leader P. Chidambaram has congratulated the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on its electoral success, saying the party’s rise to power within just two years is a remarkable achievement. Speaking to reporters in Chennai, he said the result has come in a way that few had expected and reflects a significant shift in voter sentiment.
Chidambaram noted that TVK has secured around 35 percent of the vote, with strong backing from young people, young women, and urban voters. He said the party’s performance shows that it has been able to connect with sections of the electorate that are often seen as politically influential in shaping new trends. According to him, the support appears to have reached almost every household in some form, with at least one vote from each family contributing to the outcome.
He described the victory as a major political milestone for a party that has been in existence for only two years. He said the scale of the result indicates that TVK has managed to build trust quickly and turn that support into a winning mandate. The outcome, he added, should now be viewed as both an opportunity and a responsibility.
Chidambaram also emphasized that the new government must focus on the expectations of the younger generation, who played an important role in the party’s success. He said the administration should work to preserve the confidence of these voters by prioritizing employment, education, and industrial development. In his view, these areas are essential for converting political support into long-term public confidence and economic progress.
He suggested that the government should take concrete steps to create job opportunities, improve access to quality education, and encourage growth in the industrial sector. These measures, he said, would help ensure that the hopes of young voters are not disappointed after the election.
The remarks come at a time when TVK’s unexpected performance is drawing attention across Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. The strong support from younger and urban voters is being seen as a key factor behind the party’s success, while the scale of the mandate has prompted discussion about changing political preferences in the state.
Chidambaram’s comments were both congratulatory and cautionary, recognizing the achievement of the party while also calling on it to deliver on the expectations that helped bring it to power. He stressed that electoral victory should be followed by effective governance, especially in sectors that directly affect the future of young people and working families.
The Congress leader’s statement reflects a broader political message: the public has placed trust in TVK, and the government must now respond with action. Employment generation, educational improvement, and industrial expansion, he said, will be key tests of the party’s ability to govern and maintain the confidence of the voters who backed it.
