Another Big Box Office Win: This Time, It’s Not a Horror Movie

The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act delivered a major theatrical surprise, expanding far beyond its originally planned four-day run and posting strong box office numbers in its first domestic weekend. The finale episode of the viral animated series, which began as a YouTube phenomenon in October 2023 before later reaching Netflix, drew intense demand from younger audiences and fans eager to see the ninth and final chapter on the big screen.

Originally scheduled to play in about 900 theaters from June 4 to June 7, the release grew to more than 2,200 screens across the United States after presales set records for Fathom Entertainment. That wider rollout helped push the film’s opening weekend well past early expectations of around $10 million. Instead, the release earned $20,243,821 domestically over its first four days.

The daily box office breakdown showed a strong launch on Thursday, June 4, with $7,880,784, followed by $4,325,537 on Friday, June 5, $4,703,186 on Saturday, June 6, and $3,334,314 on Sunday, June 7. The total reflected the unusual strength of the property, which has become one of the most recognizable animated brands to emerge from online video culture in recent years.

The Amazing Digital Circus has built a passionate fanbase around its colorful but unsettling virtual setting and its cast of characters, including Pomni, Gangle, Caine, and Jax. That popularity has now translated into theatrical success, placing the finale among the most surprising box office performers of the year.

The release comes during a notable stretch for unconventional genre titles at the box office, including successful horror films and other offbeat projects that have outperformed expectations. In international markets, BoxOfficeMojo reported more than $400,000 combined from Portugal and Norway, with additional releases in Japan, Latin America, and parts of Europe likely contributing further to the total.

The Last Act is now playing in theaters through Sunday, June 14, giving audiences one more chance to see the conclusion on the big screen.
