Will Forte’s Wife Threatened to Divorce Him: What Happened?

Will Forte shared a humorous story about upsetting his wife, Olivia Modling, after unexpectedly reacting badly to her new bangs during a FaceTime call. Speaking Thursday on “Late Night With Seth Meyers,” Forte said he was away from home while filming Season 2 of “The Four Seasons” when he called Modling and noticed she had just cut her hair. Because he had not seen her with bangs before, his first reaction was to ask, “What happened to you?” He then made things worse by asking whether the hair was a wig.

Forte said he quickly realized his comment was not the response he should have given. He tried to recover by telling himself to act like he loved the style, but he was still in the middle of rehearsal and had to end the call abruptly. The exchange did not end there. When he checked his phone about 30 minutes later, Modling had sent a series of texts expressing how offended she was by his reaction. He read one message aloud on the show, including her joking threat to divorce him after hearing the word “wig” right after she cut her bangs.

The actor said the situation was ultimately resolved and that he and Modling “got past it.” His story drew laughs from host Seth Meyers and the audience, who saw the incident as a classic example of a spouse accidentally saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. Forte added that he had tried to compare the look to French icon Brigitte Bardot, but instead ended up comparing it to Spock from “Star Trek,” which only made the explanation more awkward.

Forte and Modling’s relationship began in 2019, and they became engaged shortly after they started dating. The couple later married in a private ceremony in New Mexico in 2021. They now have two daughters together: Zoe, 5, and Cecilia, who was born in 2022.

The lighthearted anecdote offered a glimpse into Forte’s family life and the kind of teasing back-and-forth that can happen in a long-term relationship. While his reaction may have been blunt, Forte made it clear that the incident became an amusing story rather than a serious conflict.
