Report Says Neymar Will Miss Brazil’s World Cup Opener

Neymar continues to work separately from the rest of the group, but there is an expectation that he will begin field activities later this week.
The Brazil national team’s No. 10 suffered a grade 2 strain in his right calf on May 17 during Santos’ match against Coritiba. Since then, his recovery has been closely monitored by the medical staff of the Brazilian national team as he follows a planned rehabilitation program.
In an official statement, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said that Neymar underwent an MRI on Monday. According to the federation, the scan showed good progress in his treatment, within the expected parameters. The statement added that he will continue the recovery and physical preparation process established by Brazil’s medical department.
The timeline for Neymar’s recovery remains in line with what had been planned since he reported to the national team. The medical staff had initially projected a recovery period of two to three weeks based on examinations carried out on May 27.
Neymar will continue to be evaluated daily by team doctors before any decision is made on when he will start training with the other 25 players in the squad.
The update suggests that the forward’s rehabilitation is advancing as expected, with no indication of setbacks so far. His return to full group training will depend on how he responds over the coming days, but the current forecast points to a gradual reintegration into team activities.
Brazil’s medical department is keeping a cautious approach, ensuring that the striker is physically ready before joining collective sessions. For now, his work remains individualized, while the staff tracks his condition day by day.
