Indiana Fever vs. Washington Mystics: WNBA Preview, Prediction and Key Matchups

The Indiana Fever travel to face the Washington Mystics after both teams enter the matchup looking to bounce back from losses. Indiana has dropped three straight road games, most recently an 83-75 defeat at the New York Liberty on Saturday. Kelsey Mitchell led the Fever with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Monique Billings added 15 points and eight rebounds. Aliyah Boston contributed 13 points and nine rebounds. Caitlin Clark finished with nine assists and seven rebounds, but she scored only 10 points on 4-of-14 shooting, continuing a recent stretch in which her scoring has dipped.
Washington is also coming off a disappointing result, falling 109-77 in Atlanta in one of its roughest performances of the season. Kiki Iriafen scored 24 points and Sonia Citron added 18 points with six assists, but the Mystics were outrebounded 42-26 and their bench was outscored 40-24. Despite the loss, Washington has shown progress this season and will try to build on its earlier win over Indiana. The Mystics defeated the Fever 104-102 in Indiana 24 days ago and will look to repeat that success at home.
Betting markets list Indiana as a 5.5-point road favorite, with the Fever at -220 on the money line and Washington at +180. The over/under is set at 169.5 points. Indiana has struggled away from home, going 1-5 straight up and 1-4-1 against the spread in road games since the end of last season. Washington, meanwhile, has gone over the total in four of its past five games.
For Indiana, two major concerns stand out. Clark has not been as productive offensively over her last four games, averaging 12.3 points while shooting just 28 percent from the field. She has dealt with a nagging back issue, though she has missed only one game this season. She did, however, score a season-high 32 points against Washington in the previous meeting, including 17 in the fourth quarter. The bigger question is the health of Aliyah Boston, who injured her right lower leg during Unrivaled play in February. Boston has already missed the first game of her WNBA career and briefly exited the game against New York, making her status a key factor in the matchup.
Washington’s outlook is centered on its young core and the continued growth of Citron and Iriafen, who combined for 55 points in the earlier win over Indiana. Fifth-year center Shakira Austin has also emerged as a reliable contributor, averaging a career-high 16 points and 8.2 rebounds. After a quiet seven-point outing against Atlanta, Austin will be counted on to provide leadership and production for a Mystics team that remains a work in progress but has enough talent to challenge Indiana again.
The Fever have offensive weapons, but their road issues and Boston’s uncertain availability make this a difficult spot. Washington’s motivation and inside production could help it secure another close win over Indiana.
