Tom Holland Encourages Letterboxd Users to Track Formats for Odyssey Star Role
Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated epic The Odyssey is building major momentum ahead of its theatrical release on July 17, with fans already rushing to secure premium-format tickets. Now, Tom Holland and Letterboxd are adding to the buzz by promoting a new way for moviegoers to celebrate how they watch the film.
In a video shared by Letterboxd on June 8, 2026, Holland said the platform will debut a digital punch card that lets users track and share the formats in which they see The Odyssey, including repeat viewings. The feature is designed to highlight bragging rights for fans who experience the movie in multiple formats, and Holland teased that it will launch soon on Letterboxd’s social channels.
The film adapts Homer’s classic tale of a Greek hero’s long journey home after the Trojan War. Holland plays the son of Odysseus in a star-studded cast that also includes Matt Damon, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Mia Goth and Benny Safdie. The project is among Nolan’s most ambitious yet, continuing his long-standing association with large-format presentation and IMAX filmmaking.
The Odyssey is notable for being the first film shot exclusively with IMAX cameras, a milestone that underscores Nolan’s interest in cinematic spectacle and immersive exhibition. Audiences will have multiple ways to see the film, including 70mm IMAX, IMAX 1.90:1, 70mm film, 35mm film, Dolby Vision and premium large format screenings. The wide selection gives fans several options for experiencing the movie’s visuals and sound design, although availability may be limited as advance ticket demand remains high.
Several cast members have also taken part in the promotional push by appearing in videos that explain the different presentation formats. Holland, in particular, highlighted the appeal of premium large formats, describing them as enhanced theatrical experiences with wall-to-wall screens and advanced projection systems that increase immersion. He also pointed to motion-based formats such as RX and D-Box, where seats move in sync with the action on screen, offering viewers a more physical experience of the film.
The partnership with Letterboxd adds a social-media-friendly layer to the release campaign, tapping into the enthusiasm of film fans who enjoy cataloging screenings and comparing viewing experiences. By turning format-hopping into a shareable badge of honor, the promotion mirrors the growing interest in premium theatrical presentation as a major part of the moviegoing experience.
With a massive cast, an iconic source material, and Nolan’s signature commitment to large-scale filmmaking, The Odyssey is shaping up to be one of the biggest theatrical events of 2026. The film arrives in theaters worldwide on July 17.
