Jim Nantz Pays Emotional Tribute to CBS Sports Colleague at Memorial Service

CBS Sports is mourning the death of production assistant Bryce Adair, who died after a car crash while working at the PGA Tour’s Memorial Tournament in Ohio. He was 31. A GoFundMe page for Adair said he was involved in a “horrific” single-car accident on Wednesday night and died on Saturday. The news was shared during CBS’s Saturday afternoon broadcast of the Memorial Tournament, where lead announcer Jim Nantz paused to acknowledge the loss and offered an emotional tribute to Adair and his family.

Nantz said the CBS Sports crew had entered the broadcast carrying deep grief and described Adair as someone loved by everyone around him. He remembered Adair as a warm, compassionate presence who greeted people with a smile and contributed in many ways to the network’s live productions. Nantz also noted that Adair had won an Emmy for CBS’s Super Bowl broadcast and said he deserved the world for the work and spirit he brought to the team. In closing, Nantz thanked Adair’s mother, Michelle, for sharing her son with the CBS family and said he would never be forgotten.

Adair was from Martinez, Georgia, near Augusta, and studied communications at Valdosta State University. He worked behind the scenes in live sports production and broadcasting, helping ensure that major events were covered smoothly and met CBS’s standards.

CBS Sports reporter Tracy Wolfson also paid tribute on social media, calling Adair a great friend and colleague who brought joy to the crew. She remembered his kindness, his smile, his love for the Philadelphia Eagles and music, and the conversations they shared while working sidelines and traveling to games. Wolfson said he would be sorely missed.

The loss has resonated across CBS Sports, where colleagues described Adair as a valued member of the production team and an important part of the network’s event coverage. The emotional on-air tribute reflected the close-knit nature of the crew and the impact Adair had on those who worked with him.

The tragedy comes during a major golf broadcast week, but CBS’s coverage was briefly centered not on the tournament itself, but on remembering a young colleague whose life and career ended far too soon.
