Nintendo Direct Rumors Point to a Possible June 2026 Showcase

Nintendo fans are watching June 2026 closely amid growing speculation that Nintendo could finally hold a general Direct after a long quiet stretch. The company has not hosted a full Nintendo Direct since September 2025, instead relying on scattered announcements and the Nintendo Today app to reveal new information. That slower rollout has helped individual games get more attention, but it has also left fans eager for the broader excitement and surprise that usually comes with a Direct.
Rumors now suggest a June presentation could be on the way, with some chatter pointing to Tuesday, though nothing has been confirmed by Nintendo. If a Direct does happen, expectations are already building around what the company might show for both Nintendo Switch 2 and the original Switch.
One of the most discussed possibilities comes from insider NateTheHate, who has reportedly mentioned several projects in development. Among them is a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Nintendo Switch 2, along with a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition of Pikmin 4. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Nintendo Switch Sports are also said to be getting new versions or updates, though it is unclear whether those would be enhanced editions or entirely new releases. NateTheHate has also previously suggested a Kirby: Planet Robobot port or remake, which remains unannounced but still plausible given the large Switch audience and the game’s reputation as one of the series’ strongest entries.
Another major topic is 3D Mario. According to NateTheHate, a new 3D Mario game exists, but it will not be ready until 2027. Even so, fans think Nintendo could tease it in a June Direct as a brief closing surprise. Because Nintendo has remained unusually quiet this year, NateTheHate’s comments carry added weight among fans trying to guess the company’s second-half lineup.
Third-party support is also expected to play a major role. Numerous Nintendo Switch 2 ports and releases have been leaked or rumored in recent months, including Minecraft, Monster Hunter Wilds, Hi-Fi Rush, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Expedition 33, Mewgenics, and Sonic Frontiers: Definitive Edition. With so many titles circulating in rumor reports, many observers believe a Direct would be the ideal place for Nintendo and its partners to organize the rollout.
Beyond rumors, there is also speculation about what fans would like to see. Some are hoping for a new Nintendo Switch Online platform, possibly Nintendo DS, which would fit the Switch 2’s built-in microphone and add another strong retro library. Others want more GameCube titles, with Super Mario Sunshine frequently mentioned as a major omission.
Potential DLC is another expectation. Mario Kart World could receive new characters and tracks, possibly tied to games like Donkey Kong Bananza or Luigi’s Mansion. Pokemon Pokopia may also get additional content eventually. As for new games, fans are hoping for another Super Mario Maker title or a new Luigi’s Mansion, especially since Next Level Games has not released a self-developed game since Mario Strikers: Battle League in 2022.
At the same time, most expect it is too soon for new entries in some of Nintendo’s biggest franchises. A new Animal Crossing, all-new Zelda, or Splatoon 4 seems unlikely, particularly with Splatoon Raiders already due this year. For now, the question remains whether June will finally bring the Nintendo Direct fans have been waiting for.
