Bill Nighy Joins John Wick Spin-Off Caine in Key Role

British actor Bill Nighy has joined the cast of Caine, Lionsgate’s John Wick spin-off led by Donnie Yen. Yen, who played the blind assassin Caine in John Wick: Chapter 4, is starring in the new film, which is currently shooting in Budapest and Hong Kong.
The project already includes Mason Thames, known for The Black Phone, Dacre Montgomery of Stranger Things, and Rina Sawayama, who is reprising her role as Akira. In John Wick: Chapter 4, Akira worked at the hitman hotel that was attacked by assassins and held Caine responsible for her father’s death.
The screenplay was written by Mattson Tomlin, who is also attached to The Batman Part II and the comic adaptation BRZRKR, along with Michael McGrale. The story continues after the events of John Wick: Chapter 4 and follows Caine after he has been freed from his duties to the High Table, the powerful council that controls the criminal underworld. However, his freedom does not last long, and the character is pulled back into danger.
The film is being produced by longtime John Wick franchise figures Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road, as well as Chad Stahelski through 87Eleven Entertainment. Keanu Reeves is also among the producers, along with John Saunders. Yen serves as an executive producer alongside Courtney Brock.
Nighy is a well-known British stage and screen actor whose breakout roles included Love Actually, About Time and the Underworld films. He is also due to appear this summer in Ride or Die with Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham, and in California Avenue, a BBC project from Hugo Blick opposite Helena Bonham Carter.
