Lynne McGranger Says, “I’m Too Old for This Shit!”

Lynne McGranger has spoken candidly about life after Home and Away, saying she does not miss the demanding pace of filming the long-running Seven soap, despite loving her 33 years on the show. Appearing on Sunrise at Seven’s Eveleigh studios, where she wrapped up her time on the series about a year ago, the actor gave a blunt answer when asked by host Matt Shirvington whether she missed her former workplace.

McGranger said she loved the series, the cast, and the friendships she built over more than three decades, but she does not miss the “grind” of the job. She said the lengthy 13-hour days were especially difficult and joked that at a certain age, “I’m too old for this.” Her comments reflected both affection for the show and relief at moving on from its punishing schedule.

She described the work as intensely demanding, saying it often felt like studying for an exam every night, particularly in the final months of her time on the soap, when she had to learn lines and perform them the next day. In a light-hearted remark, she joked that the job required acting as well as memorising dialogue, suggesting that was not part of the “contract.”

Despite her frankness, McGranger stressed that her years on Home and Away were a wonderful part of her life. She said the role took up nearly half of her life and brought her lasting friendships and many happy memories. She added that she is grateful for the opportunity and for leaving at a time she chose, allowing her to move on to new creative projects.

McGranger said she is now looking forward to other work, including theatre, podcasts, and “bits and pieces” of new opportunities. Her comments suggest she is embracing the next stage of her career rather than dwelling on the past.

The actor is currently appearing in Shark! on Nine, continuing to stay active in Australian entertainment after her long-running television run. Her appearance on Sunrise offered a mix of humour, honesty, and reflection, showing both her appreciation for Home and Away and her readiness to leave its demanding schedule behind.
