Tom Holland Reveals What He Told Zendaya While Filming Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Saying He’d “Never Dream” of Saying It Otherwise

Tom Holland revealed that a candid conversation with Zendaya during filming of Spider-Man: Brand New Day led to a major rewrite of one scene, and he said their relationship made the honesty possible. While shooting the Marvel movie, Holland noticed that a scene they had been working on did not feel right. After filming his part, he turned to Zendaya and asked whether the scene was working. Zendaya agreed that it was not. Holland then took the concern to the producers and later discussed it with director Destin Daniel Cretton, who listened carefully and asked what emotion the scene needed to convey.

According to Holland, Cretton stayed calm, understood the issue, and decided the production should pause so the scene could be rewritten. The crew reportedly went home for the day while the filmmakers and writer Justin reshaped the moment. The next day, the scene was reshot, and Holland said he was glad they made the change because it “sings” in the finished film. He noted that he would not have felt comfortable giving that kind of direct feedback to an actress he was not in a relationship with, suggesting that his personal connection with Zendaya made the creative exchange easier and more productive.

Holland and Zendaya have worked together since Spider-Man: Homecoming, and their professional partnership has continued to grow alongside their relationship. The couple reportedly got engaged at the end of 2024, and Holland said their long-standing trust allows them to speak openly during filming. He also suggested that if he had made the same comment to another scene partner, it might not have been received as well and the improvement may never have happened.

The story highlights the collaborative nature of large film productions, where actors, producers, and directors can work together to improve a scene even after filming has already begun. Holland praised Cretton’s willingness to listen and adapt, emphasizing that the director’s calm approach helped turn a difficult moment into a stronger final result. The rewritten scene is now expected to appear in the completed movie.

Zendaya has previously spoken positively about working with Holland, calling him her favorite person to collaborate with. In 2026, the two will appear together in both Spider-Man: Brand New Day and The Odyssey, continuing a partnership that has become one of the most closely watched in Hollywood. Fans will first see them together again in The Odyssey, set for theatrical release on July 17, followed by Spider-Man: Brand New Day on July 31. The new Spider-Man film will bring Holland and Zendaya back as Peter Parker and MJ, with at least one key scene improved through their shared creative input.
