This Famous Children’s Brand Is Set to Close Around 60 Stores

Okaïdi, the French children’s clothing retailer owned by IDKIDS, has announced a major restructuring plan that will lead to the closure of about 60 stores in France and up to 290 job cuts. The measures are part of the company’s ongoing judicial recovery process, which began in February 2026, and are expected to take effect in the second half of 2026. The company said the goal is to refocus its French store network on its most profitable locations.
The announcement reflects the continued strain on France’s ready-to-wear sector, which has been hit by weak consumer demand, falling birth rates, tighter household budgets, rising second-hand shopping and strong competition from ultra-fast fashion. Okaïdi said it is operating in a “persistently deteriorated environment” and that it employs around 2,000 people in France.
The restructuring will also affect Okaïdi’s international operations. The company plans to end its business entirely in Poland, where it has 25 stores, as well as in Germany, with 17 stores, and Portugal, with two stores. Okaïdi said those markets were structurally unprofitable.
Founded in 1996, Okaïdi is a long-standing brand within the Roubaix-based IDKIDS group. It currently operates more than 900 stores worldwide and employs about 4,500 people globally. In France, the brand has 335 stores. IDKIDS had previously said that Okaïdi generates about 600 million euros in annual revenue worldwide, including 300 million euros in France.
The group has also recently sold Jacadi, its premium children’s clothing brand and a key asset in its portfolio, to the Deveaux fashion group, which owns brands such as Armand Thiery and Jacqueline Riu.
Okaïdi’s difficulties come amid a broader crisis in the French clothing industry. Retailers have been pressured for years by the shift to online shopping, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, inflation and, more recently, the rapid growth of second-hand fashion and low-cost ultra-fast-fashion platforms such as Shein. Many well-known French apparel chains have faced serious trouble, including IKKS, Camaïeu, Kookaï, Gap France, Pimkie, Comptoir des Cotonniers and Princesse Tam Tam. Some, including Kaporal and Jennyfer, have been liquidated.
