IPL 2026 RR vs SRH Eliminator: Match Preview

Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals meet in a high-stakes IPL 2026 eliminator in New Chandigarh, with both teams carrying very different storylines into the knockout. SRH’s campaign appeared to be slipping away early in the season, with just one win from their first four matches, an unsettled bowling attack, heavy reliance on the top order and an injured regular captain. Their fortunes changed dramatically after a 57-run victory over RR, which sparked a run of five consecutive wins and pushed them back into playoff contention. Rajasthan, by contrast, opened with four straight wins before their form dipped sharply, beginning with that defeat to SRH, and they had to fight through two pressure-filled games to secure a place in the knockouts.
The eliminator is expected to hinge on the battle between the two explosive top orders. RR’s Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been one of the standout performers of the season, scoring 583 runs in 14 innings at a strike rate of 232.37, while also hitting 53 sixes. He comes into the match with a huge personal target in sight: seven more sixes would take him past Chris Gayle’s record for the most sixes in a single IPL season. Sooryavanshi has already produced one of the season’s defining innings against SRH, hammering 103 off 37 balls in Jaipur after previously being dismissed for a first-ball duck against the same attack. His duel with SRH’s pace options could be decisive once again.
SRH, however, have their own top-order match-winner in Abhishek Sharma. The left-hander has scored 563 runs in 14 innings at a strike rate of 206.22, making this his best IPL season by runs. Alongside Ishan Kishan, who has 569 runs, and Heinrich Klaasen, who has 606, he forms part of one of the most dangerous batting units in the tournament. If Abhishek and Kishan add modest scores in the eliminator, SRH could become the first team in IPL history to have three batters cross 600 runs in a single season.
Head-to-head, SRH have already beaten RR twice this year, defending 216 in Hyderabad and chasing 229 in Jaipur. They are also on a six-match winning streak against RR, and another victory would mark their longest ever run against any IPL opponent. RR, meanwhile, are unbeaten in New Chandigarh, winning all three of their matches at the venue this season. The pitch is expected to be another high-scoring one, with chasing sides having won all three games on it in IPL 2026.
Team news suggests RR may again need to manage injuries, with captain Riyan Parag and Ravindra Jadeja both nursing fitness issues but expected to play. SRH have no major injury concerns and come in with a settled XI. The winner will move into Qualifier 2, keeping alive hopes of an IPL 2026 title run.
