Lens transfer update: Pierre Sage’s move to Crystal Palace is all but finalized

Pierre Sage is set to leave RC Lens and take over at Crystal Palace after the French club, the Premier League side and the coach reached a full agreement, according to reports. The move ends weeks of speculation about the future of the 47-year-old, who will no longer be on Lens’ bench next season.
Lens will receive a compensation package worth €5 million, made up of an initial €3 million payment plus up to €2 million in bonuses. The deal allows Crystal Palace to secure one of Ligue 1’s most highly regarded coaches after Sage was recently named Ligue 1’s best manager at the UNFP Trophies.
Sage is expected to sign a three-year contract with the London club, keeping him at Selhurst Park until June 30, 2029, with an additional optional fourth year included in the agreement. The former Olympique Lyonnais coach is also set for a major salary increase in England. His pay at Crystal Palace is expected to be four times higher than his current Lens wage of around €100,000 gross per month.
The agreement marks a significant step for Crystal Palace, who are looking to strengthen their project with a coach viewed as one of the rising figures in French football. For Lens, the departure represents a major change after Sage’s work had drawn attention beyond France.
Sage’s move follows a successful spell in Ligue 1 and comes shortly after his recognition as the league’s top coach. His imminent arrival in England reflects Crystal Palace’s ambition to build on recent progress and add an experienced, high-profile manager to their setup.
The final details of the transfer are now in place, making the switch all but official. Lens will lose their head coach, but the club will benefit financially from one of the more notable coaching moves of the summer.
