Atlético Rejects Madrid’s $150 Million Bid for Julián Álvarez

Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez has followed through on a campaign promise by making a major bid for a “galáctico” player worth 150 million euros. The target, however, is not one of the names many expected. The club has formally moved for Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez, only for Atlético to reject the offer outright. In an official communication relayed by Real Madrid, Atlético thanked them for the proposal, cited the good relations between the two clubs, and declined to negotiate beyond the player’s 500 million euro release clause. Álvarez remains under contract with Atlético until 2030, leaving any possible move dependent on the player’s own decision.
Before this development, Florentino had created speculation by promising “the biggest offer ever made for a player” if he won the election. That sparked rumors around several elite names across Europe. Michael Olise was one of the early candidates mentioned, but Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer quickly dismissed the idea, insisting that Olise is a long-term Bayern player and that the club is not a selling side, even at a fee of 150 million euros or more.
Attention also turned to Paris Saint-Germain stars Vitinha and João Neves. Both are seen as highly prized members of Luis Enrique’s squad, and within PSG they are regarded as essentially untouchable. The only realistic scenario for a departure would be if either player personally wanted to leave, a condition that aligns with Luis Enrique’s principle that players must be fully committed to the club. At present, PSG has no indication that either midfielder wants to depart. Vitinha, in particular, is viewed as one of the most important potential additions for Real Madrid’s midfield structure, but he recently renewed his contract, and there are no unilateral exit clauses allowing either side to force a transfer.
The rejected offer for Álvarez now shifts the spotlight to whether Real Madrid will pursue another move or whether the Argentine striker himself could create an opening by expressing a desire to leave. For now, Atlético’s response has made clear that any transfer would require far more than the 150 million euro bid on the table.
