New York Knicks Fans Beat 17-Year-Old Spurs Fan Into a Coma

A 17-year-old boy was left in a coma after being brutally attacked outside Madison Square Garden during celebrations following the New York Knicks’ dramatic Game 4 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on June 10. According to the NYPD, the assault happened around 11:45 p.m. on West 35th Street near Eighth Avenue, shortly after the Knicks completed a 107-106 comeback win. Police said the violence began after a verbal dispute between basketball fans escalated, with one man in Spurs gear reportedly shouting “Spurs in 7” amid a crowd of Knicks supporters. Although the teenager was not involved in the initial argument, authorities said he became the target once the confrontation turned physical.
Police said the victim was punched and kicked repeatedly in the head and body, causing him to suffer a seizure before going into a coma. He was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition. The attack was captured on a livestream and quickly spread online, prompting public outrage and renewed concerns about fan violence surrounding the NBA Finals.
The NYPD has released images of at least one suspect and is asking for the public’s help in identifying those responsible. The case is being investigated as a gang assault.
The incident comes amid a broader pattern of violence tied to the Knicks’ playoff run. Earlier in the week, Spurs fans reported being attacked by groups of Knicks supporters after Game 3, and multiple arrests were made during postgame disorder in Manhattan. The recent attacks have drawn condemnation from players and fans alike, with calls for rivalries to stay competitive and not turn into real-world harm.
Authorities continue to investigate the assault and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
