Legally Blonde TV Series “Elle” Trailer, Release Date, Cast and Latest Updates

Prime Video’s upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series, Elle, will explore the teenage years of Elle Woods and show how her high school experiences helped shape the confident, fashion-forward character audiences first met in the 2001 film. The series is positioned as a fresh expansion of the Legally Blonde franchise, which includes the original movie, its 2003 sequel Red, White & Blonde, the 2009 direct-to-video spinoff Legally Blondes, and the Broadway musical adaptation. A third Legally Blonde film was also announced in 2020, but that project has not received a recent update.
According to the show’s logline, Elle follows Elle Woods in high school before her rise to becoming the beloved Harvard Law student known for challenging expectations and proving her intelligence, determination, and legal talent. The original film starred Reese Witherspoon as Elle, a California college student who enrolls at Harvard Law to win back her boyfriend Warner, only to discover her own ambition and purpose. The sequel sent Elle to Washington, D.C., where she worked on animal testing legislation and faced criticism from powerful, judgmental figures who underestimated her because of her style and personality.
The new series will stream exclusively on Prime Video and is set to premiere on July 1, 2026. Amazon has already moved forward with the project’s future, announcing that season 2 has been ordered before season 1 debuts. That early renewal signals confidence in the series and strong interest in one of the most recognizable comedy franchises of the past two decades.
Lexi Minetree will star as the younger version of Elle Woods. Reese Witherspoon introduced Minetree in a social media announcement after the casting search, calling her the new Elle Woods following what Witherspoon described as a wide audition process. June Diane Raphael has also been cast as Elle’s mother. While Witherspoon is not currently scheduled to appear on screen in the series, she remains closely involved behind the scenes as an executive producer through her company Hello Sunshine.
The original Legally Blonde film, released in 2001, became a hit with audiences for its mix of comedy, heart, and empowerment, and it turned Elle Woods into a pop culture icon. The franchise has remained popular for more than 20 years, making the prequel series a notable event for fans who want to see the character’s origin story. With a new cast, a familiar creative connection to Witherspoon, and an established fan base, Elle is positioned to become a major addition to the Legally Blonde universe when it arrives this summer.
