José Roberto Burnier, of SP2, attacked by unleashed pit bull and vents frustration over “irresponsibility”

José Roberto Burnier, the 65-year-old presenter of TV Globo’s SP2 news program in São Paulo, said he was attacked by a pit bull while walking his dogs in the city on Sunday morning, June 7. According to Burnier, the dog was not on a leash and was not wearing a muzzle when it charged at him and injured both him and one of his female dogs.

After the attack, Burnier received medical treatment at Hospital Sírio-Libanês. He said he needed four stitches in his hand and had additional wounds treated as a result of the incident. In social media posts, the journalist reassured followers that his condition is stable and that he is recovering.

Burnier blamed the episode on what he described as the owner’s irresponsibility. He said the woman was walking three dogs and that the pit bull, which he described as the most aggressive of the group, was loose at the time of the attack. In one post, he wrote that the incident was “the price of irresponsibility,” adding that he and his dogs were attacked by a pit bull without a leash.

He also criticized the lack of compliance with safety rules for dog owners. Burnier pointed out that state law requires dogs to be kept on a leash and, in the case of breeds considered larger or potentially dangerous, to wear a muzzle. He said it is regrettable that some owners believe they can walk their dogs in public without these precautions.

According to Burnier, ignoring these rules can endanger not only other animals but also people nearby. He argued that the attack shows how failures in responsibility and public safety can quickly lead to injuries. The journalist’s comments drew attention to the broader issue of controlling aggressive dogs in urban areas and enforcing existing animal safety regulations.

The presenter’s account was shared publicly through his social media profiles, where he also posted photos related to the aftermath of the attack. The incident has since circulated online as an example of the risks created when dogs are taken into public spaces without proper restraint.

Burnier’s report added that he remains under care after the medical treatment and is expected to continue recovering from the hand injury and the cuts sustained during the confrontation.
