Halle Berry Reunites With Ex Amid Long-Running Child Support Dispute

Halle Berry set aside a long and complicated past with ex-partner Gabriel Aubry this week to support their daughter, Nahla, at a major family milestone. The Oscar-winning actress attended Nahla’s high school graduation in Los Angeles on Thursday, where Aubry was also present as the former couple gathered to celebrate their 18-year-old daughter’s achievement. Berry arrived at the ceremony with her fiancé, Van Hunt, and appeared in good spirits despite what was described as an awkward interaction with Aubry. Regardless of any tension between them, both parents showed up to mark Nahla’s important step before heading off to college.
Berry and Aubry’s relationship ended in April 2010, when Nahla was only 2 years old, and their split was followed by years of legal conflict over child support. Even so, they came together for Nahla’s graduation, putting their history aside to support her future.
The celebration comes after Berry publicly marked Nahla’s early college acceptance in October. At the time, Berry shared a sweet Instagram video featuring a pink cake that read, “You did it, Nahla!!” She congratulated her daughter on the achievement without revealing which college she will attend. In a June 2025 appearance on Today, Berry said Nahla was 17 and attending a college summer program at the school she hoped to join the following year. Berry said she would naturally worry as her daughter becomes more independent, but also expressed excitement about watching Nahla discover who she is and what she wants to do.
Berry and Aubry’s past included a high-profile child support battle that drew public attention for years. In 2014, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge ordered Berry to pay Aubry $16,000 per month in child support, along with a $115,000 lump sum. The monthly payment was later reduced to $8,000 in 2021, while Berry was also ordered to pay a percentage of income above a set threshold. Court filings later indicated that the amount was capped at $4.5 million. Berry also has a son, Maceo, with ex-husband Olivier Martinez, and she was likewise ordered to pay child support in that case.
Berry’s split from Martinez also made headlines. The couple filed for divorce in October 2015 after two years of marriage and issued a joint statement saying they were ending the relationship with love and respect while focusing on what was best for their son. They also asked for privacy during the difficult process.
In later comments, Berry said her relationship with Van Hunt changed her outlook on motherhood and life. In a 2021 interview, she said she felt fulfilled romantically, as a mother, and as an artist. Berry added that being in a healthy relationship has made her a better parent and emphasized that personal happiness helps her care for her children more effectively.
