Hollywood Unlocked held its sixth annual Impact Awards on June 5 at the Beverly Hilton hotel, drawing a star-studded crowd that included Kehlani, SZA, Chlöe Bailey, Kirk Franklin, Patti LaBelle, Tiffany Haddish and others. The event continued the outlet’s tradition of recognizing entertainers, musicians, and public figures who have made notable cultural contributions and inspired audiences in Hollywood and beyond.
This year, Hollywood Unlocked founder Jason Lee presented the evening’s top “Innovator Award” to actor, producer, and studio owner Tyler Perry. Other major honorees included Patti LaBelle, who received the “Legend Award,” Kirk Franklin, who was presented with the “Inspiration Award,” and RZA of the Wu-Tang Clan, who was recognized with the “Culture Award.” Meagan Good was honored with the “Spirit Award,” attending with her husband Jonathan Majors, as well as her sister Lamiya and brother-in-law, singer Eric Bellinger.
Tiffany Haddish hosted the ceremony and arrived on the red carpet in a sequined gown. One of the evening’s most emotional moments came when Kehlani accepted the “Fearlessness Award” and spoke about how Kirk Franklin’s music helped her through a difficult childhood. She shared that while her mother was in jail, she had only two albums, one by Keyshia Cole and one by Franklin, and said his music helped her persevere during hard times.
The awards also featured performances from Chlöe Bailey, Kierra Sheard, Joyner Lucas, Jekalyn Carr, Donald Lawrence and Sheléa, adding a musical highlight to the celebration. Additional honorees included entrepreneur and marketing executive Bozoma St. John, 13-time Grammy winner Babyface, and Tennessee State Representative Justin Jones.
Beyond the entertainment and tributes, the night also highlighted Jason Lee’s Hollywood Cares Foundation, a nonprofit focused on supporting underserved youth in Black and Brown communities through youth leadership, civic engagement and personal development programs. The event included donations from attendees and emphasized the organization’s commitment to creating positive change in Los Angeles.
