She was sentenced in 2016 after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in connection with the killing of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard. Dee Dee had spent years falsely claiming Gypsy Rose suffered from serious illnesses and disabilities, forcing her to use a wheelchair, undergo unnecessary medical treatment, and present a fabricated version of her age and health. In 2015, Gypsy Rose and her then-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn planned the killing, and he later stabbed Dee Dee while Gypsy was present in the home. Both fled afterward and were later arrested. Gypsy Rose served about 8.5 years before being granted parole on December 28, 2023.

She separated from Ryan Anderson, later married Ken Urker, and welcomed a daughter named Aurora in late 2024. As of June 2025, her parole had ended and she completed her sentence.
