Martin Freeman Film “Flavia” Set for U.S. and International Release
Magenta Light Studios, led by Bob Yari, has acquired theatrical rights in multiple territories for the family-adventure film Flavia, starring Molly Belle Wright, Martin Freeman, Jonathan Pryce, and Toby Jones. The company will release the film in U.S. theaters on December 4, 2026, and has also secured rights in Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and China.
Directed by Bharat Nalluri, whose credits include Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, Flavia is adapted from Alan Bradley’s popular Flavia de Luce mystery novel series. The Sky Original premiered in the UK in early April. The film follows eleven-year-old amateur detective Flavia de Luce, described as a “master poisoner,” as she investigates a murder at her family’s deteriorating British manor house after her father is accused of the crime. Her search for the truth uncovers hidden family secrets and leads her toward the real killer.
The film was produced by Robert Mickelson, Paula Mazur, Mitchell Kaplan, and Chris Curling through The Mazur Kaplan Company, Mystic Point Productions, and Zephyr Films. It was developed and co-financed by Telefilm Canada and Sky, and the screenplay was written by Susan Coyne, known for Daisy Jones and the Six.
Nalluri said the film is designed as an audience-driven mystery adventure, combining suspense, humor, surprises, and emotional appeal. He said American audiences would discover an unforgettable young heroine in Flavia de Luce, brought to life by Molly Belle Wright, and emphasized that the story is best experienced together on the big screen.
Bob Yari, CEO of Magenta Light Studios, said the company recognized early that Flavia had the qualities audiences seek in theaters. He described the film as a rare family mystery with intelligence, charm, and broad commercial potential. Yari added that Bradley created a beloved character in Flavia de Luce, and said Nalluri’s adaptation offers a fresh cinematic experience that Magenta is proud to release for U.S. viewers.
With its mix of family-friendly adventure, murder mystery, and literary source material, Flavia is positioned as a theatrical release aimed at both younger audiences and adults. The acquisition expands Magenta Light Studios’ international portfolio while bringing the film to major European territories and China ahead of its U.S. debut in late 2026.
